More model informationAt Myrtle Beach on the south coast of New South Wales, the basal unconformity between the underlying Lachlan Orogen basement and the overlying basal units of the Sydney Basin is exposed in spectacular fashion.
The Lachlan Orogen basement cropping out at this locality are strongly deformed Cambro-Ordovician slates and turbidites of the Wagonga Beds.
In contrast the near-horizontal basal Sydney Basin sediments here belong to the early Permian Wasp Head Formation. Sediments include fluvio-glacial sandstones and megabreccia layers. Three separate magebreccia layers can be seen in this model.
