Múrurin - The St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkjubøur3D Model
The St Magnus cathedral or “Múrurin” in Kirkjubøur, was erected ca. 1300. The building probably was begun by Erlendur, bishop 1269-1308. The rich decorated building with its characteristic slim pointed window openings often is referred to gothic building activity in Western Norway even parallels also may be found within contemporary Scottish churches. The walls are preserved in full height. To the north is a side wing, probably a chapel. To the west was a tower. On the outside of the eastern gable end is a reliquary behind a soapstone relief.
