More model informationA Mosaic from Beth Shan | Byzantine period
Archaeological excavations in the southwestern part of BethShean revealed a row of ancient shops. In the entrance to one of the shops was a mosaic with a Greek inscription in the center: “May the Tyche of the Blues be victorious” apparently wishing luck to the Blue circus faction, one of two circus factions that competed in the hippodrome of that period.
The geometric decorations around the inscription were composed of larger-sized tesserae, perhaps evidence that repairs were made to the original mosaic.
