More model informationModel of woman spinning made by French prisoners of war in the Depot, Perth
An intricate bone model of a French woman working with a spinning wheel. One of a number of items made by French prisoners of war housed in the Depot, Edinburgh Road, Perth. Such items were made for sale to the local townspeople. The prisoners were allowed four hours of market daily and they had stands around the prison yards.
The first prisoners of war arrived in Perth in 1812. There were numerous escape attempts. So many that the local newspaper refused to record them unless they were particularly unusual. Those that survived were sent home in 1814 at the end of the war.
