The Octopus Foundation team has studied near Marseille an amphorae field that has the specificity of having been discovered by Jacques Cousteau in the 50’s. The amphorae that date back to the Greco-Roman period have been then studied back on shore by underwater archeologists. But since the 60’s they were stored in a storehouse by the French authorities. In 2010, they were put back in the water by the DRASSM (the French department that is responsible for underwater remains and archeology) in order for divers to know what it is like to discover such an amazing spot in the sea. Situated at 12 meters deep, they are now under the supervision of several local diving centers that include the UCPA main diving center in the calanque of Niolon. © Octopus Foundaton / octopusfoundation.org
