Manx Cross 96. Maughold, Isle of Man.
A cross carved from a fine grained sandstone and mudlstone, it has weathered badly, two seated figures each side of the cross shaft are thought to represent St Paul and St Anthony in the desert, similar scenes of seated figures can be found on crosses in Ireland and Scotland. Wester Fowlis 2 (see this model by Douglas Ledingham https://skfb.ly/oGQJO) & Dunfallandy (see my model https://skfb.ly/o9oqp) show similar seated figures. Further down the slab are traces of a hunting scene.
This is a fibreglass copy of the original, I only realised after I was some way through taking photos. The original stone is housed in the Manx Museum in Douglas.
