This bronze nekara or drum is called Makalamau by the people of the Nusatara. Nekara Makalamau is found on Sangeang Island, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. The shape and decoration of the Makalamau nekara have similarities with the decoration of the nekara from Dongson (North Vietnam), so the presence of nekara is a trace of the presence of Dongson culture in Nusantara. Nekara could be used to summon rain, war drums, and graves, among other things. People also believed that nekara has possessed supernatural abilities that could provide protection and strength. This object comes from the National Museum Indonesia.
