Possible prehistoric carved rock found in the Low Plain area on Baildon Moor, West Yorkshire.
This ground level rock found is thought to have been referenced ‘IAG 164’ by Boughey & Vickerman in their 2003 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding’. CSI: Rombalds Moor Project subsequently recorded the stone ‘Low Plain 15’ on ERA in 2012, describing:
‘…a low-lying flat rock, measuring 0.48m x 0.38m and 6cm below the turf level. The exposed area is broadly rectangular in plan, sloping very gently from SE to NW. In the centre of the panel is one possible cup approx 4cm diameter lying within a weathered, hollowed area 12 cm in diameter. There is another possible cup of 3cm diameter in the SE corner…’
