Manns Description: Statue of Byron from left profile, wearing a long cape and seated with left foot leaning on a broken column, holding Childe Harold in his left hand. Pedestal has a skull at base and Greek imagery on sides: the owl of Minerva, the eagle of Jupiter, Greek lettering and partial frieze. Notes: Modeled by Thorvaldsen in Rome in 1835. Original in the library of Trinity College, Cambridge. This copy may be by David Ivanovitch Jensen (1816-1902), still a student in 1835, but later a successful neoclassical sculptor in Copenhagen and Russia. Over 200 copies were produced between 1835 and 1846.
