More model informationIn 1886, the Statue of Liberty was erected on Liberty Island in New York as a token of friendship between the french and the american people. Before the 100th anniversary in 1986, the copper was analyzed and surprisingly - it appeared to originate from a french owned copper mine in the town of Visnes in Norway. In 2004, a copy of the Statue of Liberty made in aluminium, painted green, was put up in the harbor of Visnes. Two years later, further analysis concluded that the copper did not originate from Visnes, but the copy of the Statue of Liberty remains in place at the museum site of the Visnes copper mines.
