More model informationAt Borve Bay, Lionacleit on Benbecula there is an extensive area of intertidal peat, formerly a marshy land surface adjacent to a fresh-water loch formed more than 7,000 years ago when the Atlantic coast would have been several kilometres to the West. In 2018 exposed parts of the site were surveyed and a small test pit laid across a Bronze Age butchery site by members of the SCAPE trust, reported in Hebridean Naturalist vol 19.
This is a model of an equine (first?) molar tooth found at the site recently. It was not ‘fixed’ in the peaty context, so cannot be certain of date without further testing.
