More model informationPossible lime burning pits on the foreshore. Examples of lime burning pits that I have found so far tend to be circular rather than linear like a trench. The internal stone lining of the pit shows vitrification indicating very high temperatures have been reached.
Amother possibility is that this could be the remains of salt pans. Fire in trench below a large metal pan where sea water is heated to evaporate the water leaving salt. The lime may just be a bi-product of this industrial process.
The site was quickly photographed to produce the model but its extent was limited by the rising tide.
