More model informationLighting Devices (research credit: Lianna Doley): Though the manufacturer of these devices are unknown, they were likely produced in America during the late 18th century. Made from iron and porcelain, they are indicated as an Iron Rush Light Holder, an Iron Betty Lamp, and a Pottery Grease Lamp. The light holder would be mounted on a wooden base and would be used to burn dried rush. The betty lamps held a fatty substance as fuel, and burned a wick that project from the spout. The grease lamp worked similarly in design to the betty lamp. Each device, by modern standards, do not offer adequate lighting. Despite this, they provide an interesting sample of centuries-old designs perhaps used in the very early years of Trenton’s history.
