This 3D model of a statue located in Lakeland, Florida was made from 237 pictures taken from a DJI Phantom 4 Pro by Emily McCain. The model was then processed on Reality Capture.
McCain, an undergraduate student of USF’s Zimmerman School of Mass Communications and Advertising, said that she chose the site because it was “a statue I’ve walked past probably a million times in my life. Lakeland is my hometown and I’m really fond of it, especially downtown which is really small and unique. I’ve walked around the promenade so many times over the years so it just made sense for me to find something there to showcase. The statue itself is kind of a controversial thing for locals, some really love it and some don’t, but it definitely grabs your attention and stands out so I thought it would be a great subject.”
This model is part of Access 3D Lab’s collaboration with Ryan Watson’s Drone Videography and Digital Storytelling class.
