This kofun is one of the largest in Japan from the latest Kofun period (7th century). The mound was built in three stages, and the entire surface was covered with fukiishi (paving stones). The outer side is surrounded by a double ditch with a bank in between, and the size including the outer ditch is huge at 135m. Instead of haniwa, large jars of Sue ware (earthenware of the Kofun period) were lined up on the mound and bank. The burial facility is a yokoanashiki sekishitsu (corridor-style stone chamber) with a length of 5.4m that has a front and a main chamber. The walls and ceilings of the chambers are made of large cut tuff stones and painted with red iron oxide.
