The principal motif depicts the moment when the Virgin Mary meets Elisabeth. This motif is known in medieval art as The Visitation . Both are surrounded by haloes. As was customary in the art of the time, Mary is showing to be unmarried by her long, flowing hair, while the married Elisabeth is wearing a headcloth. The rounded upper section of the bench end bears a coat of arms which according to all appearances represent the arms of King Erik of Pomerania and Queen Philippa. The coat of arms, of which no other version is known, is not an exact match but simular to Erik of Pomerania’s Great Seal from 1398. On the escutcheon the coat of arms are distributed in quarters and a shield. Top left: The danish arms. (Possibly english arms). Top: Right: Symbol of the Kalmar Union. Bottom left: The English arms. (Possibly danish arms). Bottom Right: The Norwegian arms. Shield: Griffin of Pomerania.
Dimension: 136 x 45.5 x 4.2 cm.
