More model informationIt is the portrait of the prince of apostles, St. Peter, the first amon the apostles, which adorns this bench end. the emblem of St. Peter is the key, because Jesus said that ” I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (St. Matt 16, 19). Many medieval representations of St. Peter show him with a tonsture, and this bench end in Kirkjubøur is no exception. In the rounded top panel of the bench end the head of Shrist is seen with a quatrefoil halo. This is presumably the Christian symbol sancta facies, the divine countenance.
