More model informationThe Kilmartin area is one of the finest places for seeing some of mainland Scotlands finest prehistoric monuments.
Thenorthern circle in Temple Wood is considered to be the earliest structure at this location. Many of the stones were relocated into the southern circle in an early example of recycling. The setting, in woodland, is a modern addition, but adds to the ‘atmosphere’ of the site, although originally it is likely to have been ‘bare’ as the surrounding landscape was probably integral to the functions of the site.
There have been many interpretations suggested for the site, but the best place to learn more is www.kilmartin.org/ .
Hopefully once current restrictions ease, visiting in person will soon be under way.
