More model informationEarly medieval rotunda in Znojmo. The Rotunda of St. Catherine (Czech: Rotunda svaté Kateřiny) consists of an oval nave with an apse to the east. The masonry is not made of classic Romanesque ashlars, but of irregular dark quarry stones that are carefully layered. The first mention of the building dates back to 1100, when Duke Bořivoj II celebrated his wedding here. The function of the rotunda is not entirely clear. It is assumed that it served as a place of worship for the castle owner and his entourage as well as the surrounding area. The building was reconstructed in 1888.
