The focal point of my research and exploration has been the Ancient City of Kashgar, formerly known as Shule. It served as a settlement for the local Uyghur ethnic group, showcasing their rich folk culture, art, and unique architecture. However, due to a riot and religious conflicts fifteen years ago, the local government decided to relocate the indigenous residents to reduce the potential for “terrorists” and public disturbances, leading to the disappearance of the city’s architectural culture and production methods. Throughout this extended three-year process of on-site research and design contemplation, I aim to gradually unfold my thought process, the issues I discovered through immersive experiences, and the design solutions to address these challenges.
