The kākāpō is a nocturnal, flightless parrot. A critically endangered species Endemic to New Zealand. kākāpō are perhaps the longest-lived bird species in the world, estimated to reach 90 years. They are the heaviest parrot species in the world – smaller females weigh 1.4 kg, and males 2.2 kg. And they can pile on 1 kg of fat prior to a breeding season. They cannot fly, but they climb well.
