Jordan’s Point served as a nexus of transportation for Lexington, Virginia from 1806 until modern times. Located on the Maury River a series of historic dams diverted water to several nearby mills and a bypass canal for the North River Navigation Company. The Great Wagon Road crossed the river here first as a ford and then by a series of covered bridges. In 2019 a failing concrete dam was removed and since, the river has exposed log dams, a small wooden ferry, and bridge remnants. Jordan’s Point is now a park operated by the City of Lexington, is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is listed as site #44RB0577 with Virginia’s Cultural Resource Inventory System.
