More model informationThis is a James VI (1567-1625) twopenny plack dated to 1583-90. The obverse shows a crowned sheild with lion rampant. The reverse, a crowned thistle, no inner circles. The inscription reads ‘James VI by the grace of God King of Scotland’ and ‘Edinburgh City’ on the back.
This billon coin is an example of coinage in the reign of James VI before the King’s accession to the English throne. it should be noted that at this time billon and copper coins were issued in reduced quanitities.
