Inscription 1 from Landhoo, Maldives3D Model
This inscribed stone (MAHS-MDV-COL-001-O-0033) was found in the island of Landhoo, and now in the collection of the National Museum of the Maldives at Malé. This coralstone block bears Brahmi-script Prakrit and Sanskrit inscriptions on its four long sides, but has been broken into three pieces (reassembled for this model).
Jost Gippert has identified the text as a dharani spell of tantric Buddhist mantras and suggests that the object was likely enshrined in a Buddhist stupa as a protective relic. Based upon its script, he has dated the inscription to between the sixth to eighth centuries, CE.
