Haniwa are unglazed objects placed on kofun (mounded tombs). Most of haniwa are cylindrical, but some were made in the shape of humans, animals, utencils and other objects. This human-shaped haniwa was found in an enpun (round mounded tomb) with 21.7m in diameter. It wears a hood, and carries a sword. Red coloring can be seen on the face and the hilt of the sword. Based on the style and clay analysis results, this haniwa is considered to have been made in the area of northern Saitama Prefecture, approximately 50km from the site where it was unearthed.
