Horse Sculpture 1660 AD w/3 LOD - Nepal Heritage3D Model
This sculpture is at the staircase of “sidhi laxmi” temple in Bhaktapur Durbar square, Kathmandu, Nepal.
It was Built by King Jagat Prakash Malla in 1660s and 1670s. Along with this statue there are altogether 10 sculptures of humans, animals (horses, dogs, rhinos), and various mythical animals on each side of the small staircase.
Other sculptures along this horse like single horned rhinos were found further outside bhaktapur and camels aren’t found in Nepal it isn’t known why someone thought of putting these here. Historians say that Bhaktapur was the last major Newar town on the old land route to Beijing, it could have been chinese influence though that does not definitively settle whether “Chinese influence” is actually expressed here.
