Wenceslaus of Bohemia (908-935) was a Bohemian prince from the Přemyslid dynasty. Wenceslas was ruler of a small region around Prague and head of the Bohemian tribal federation. In the 10th century his veneration as a saint began. In the High Middle Ages he became the patron saint of Bohemia. He is venerated in the Catholic Church and Orthodox churches to this day. In 2000, the Czech Republic declared the anniversary of his death on September 28 a national holiday.
