3D rendering of subsurface data from previously published U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) studies of Cenozoic strata and unconsolidated deposits within the Mississippi Embayment and the Gulf Coastal Plain of the south-central United States. Colored cylinders represent boreholes; color bands represent subsurface intercepts of Cenozoic hydrogeologic units (groupings of rocks with inferred similar water-transmitting properties). Tops of boreholes are hung from land surface, which is transparent in this rendering so that boreholes appear to float in 3D space. Full digital dataset including geologic map, contour maps of subsurface units, and borehole data is available on the USGS ScienceBase data repository at: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9F0X0YF.
