More model informationThis grave stela is made of marble and belongs to Exakestes, the son of Androboulos, and his wife Metries. The representation of the deceased can be seen in the pedimental arch, known as a naiskos. The arch is adorned with two wreaths that bear the inscription “The People.” These wreaths signify that both the husband and wife were honored with a burial that was covered by public funds. The stela is believed to originate from Smyrna, located in Asia Minor, and is estimated to date back to approximately 150-100 BCE. It is currently housed in The British Museum in London.
