More model informationThe archaeological site of Gordion, capital city of the legendary King Midas, has been excavated continuously by the UPenn Museum since 1950. The Citadel Mound sits beside the Sakarya River in modern-day central Turkey. Habitation of the 15 ha mound reaches back to the Early Bronze Age, but reached a peak in the Iron Age (1000-500 BCE). Excavation has focused on the eastern side of the Citadel Mound, revealing extensive fortifications and an elite precinct.
