Early Christian monastery (OF014-029----) founded at Gallen, Co. Offaly by St. Canoc in 492 AD. This monastic site was excavated in 1934-5 by T. D. Kendrick. About 200 fragments of cross-slabs dating from the 8th/11th-centuries were uncovered by this excavation. Sandstone cross slab fragment measuring 0.11m high x 0.34m wide that has been inserted into the western face of a wall built on the line of the west gable of the excavated church. Fragment of slab bears a segment of a deeply incised triple line circle. Above the outlined circle are two corners of a double outline thistle shape or hollowed angles of the ringed-cross.
