More model informationEarly Christian monastery (OF014-029----) founded at Gallen, Co. Offaly by St. Canoc in 492 AD. This monastic site was excavated in 1934-5 by T. D. Kendrick. About 200 fragments of cross-slabs dating from the 8th/11th-centuries were uncovered by this excavation. Sandstone cross slab measuring 0.42m high x 0.32m wide that has been inserted into the western face of a wall built on the line of the west gable of the excavated church. Irregular-shaped slab decorated with an incised six-petal marigold, the outer ends of the petals are joined by concave arcs, all of which is enclosed by a triple ring.
