More model informationFunerary statue of a dog. Pentelic marble. Found in Piraeus. The animal is depicted facing right, with its head turned toward the viewer. The dog was probably a self-contained monument, symbolising the faithful guardian of the tomb. The pronounced sculptural treatment of the head and neck, and the out-turned front paw lend a characteristically natural air to the animal, which is preserved together with the oval plinth. 375-350 BC.
