Panel 27 at the Palatki Roasting Pit alcove has multiple cultures represented, rock art styles and complex superposition. This corner area shows Sinagua and younger pictographs superimposed on Archaic imagery and subsequently overlain by younger rock polishing, scratching and paint. This is an area being studied in fine detail to determine if Archaic scratches are superpositioned over earlier Archaic or pre-archaic imagery.
This model is part of an ongoing project to document “at risk” rock art at our Heritage Sites due to natural or vandalism related issues. Additional information about the Red Rock District of the Coconino Forest can be found at the following web sites http://www.sedonaredrocktrails.org/
