More model informationThis vestment set is French and dates from the 19th century. The Latin-shaped chasuble is richly embroidered with gold threads laid over card, gold bullion, spangles, cords and braid. The shape of the cross on the back denotes its French origin. The I.H.S. (the sacred monogram) is in the centre and supported by roses and lilies, flowers symbolising the Virgin Mary. Red is the most popular colour for vestments and is used on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Pentecost, the birthday feasts of apostles and evangelists and the feast days of martyrs.
