Aihole is a historic site of medieval era Hindu, Budhist and Jain monuments. It comprises of over 120 stone and cave temples spread along the Malaprabha river valley.
The site is very close to the famous Badami Caves and also the Pattadakal Temple complex. The temple was commissioned during the Chalukya dynasty in the 6th century. Its part of the cultural center of the Chalukyas and is an excellent example of the innovations in the architectural space.
