More model informationNo known images of the first courthouse in Fredericksburg survive. Specifications do exist from the 1730s and indicate that is closely resembled the courthouse at King William County, Virginia only with two fewer windows on the rear. We also have a newspaper description of the building denoting its orientation on the landscape and its relation to the city grid. The angled orientation confirms that it was built prior to ca. 1749 when buildings in Fredericksburg seemingly began to re-orient from cardinal directions. Only Thorntons Tavern on Sophia Street survives from this earlier period.
