This canopy (chandarva), commonly used in conjunction with a vertical shrine hanging, depicts the fourteen auspicious dreams (swapna) experienced by Trishala prior to the birth of her son, Prince Vardhamana, who would become “the Great Hero” Mahavira, the twenty-fourth Tirthankara. Referenced together with two diagonally paired lotus motifs, the prophetic dreams about the child featured:
