Four Seasons Flowers Rim Sherd - Teaware3D ModelNoAI
One of the Digital Archaeology Lab’s interns, Asli, scanned this beautiful Four Seasons Flowers porcelain sherd today. It is from a small hollowware vessel, likely a teacup. The sherd is painted with an overglaze decoration, rather than having the pattern beneath the glaze.
She used Qlone’s AR kit to create the model, as its unique approach to 3D modeling worked well with the artifact’s incredibly glossy surface. The kit could not detect the underside of the sherd, even when trying to merge several scans, attesting to just how bright white the artifact was - it rivaled the copy paper on which it was sitting! Asli did a wonderful job keeping the scan steady, allowing her to capture the delicate floral details.
The pink flower depicted is likely one of the small flowers of a Plum Blossom, one of the flowers of the Four Seasons. In general, ceramics with Four Seasons Flowers depict the following flowers: Plum Blossom, Lotus, Chrysanthemum, and the Peony / Narcissus Flower.
