Fonte e bottino di Fontanella3D Model
Fontanella is probably the most fascinating and oldest bottini; in fact, in addition to the many and beautiful limestone formations that can be admired inside, the ceiling with the gabled vault suggests that its origins can be traced back to the Etruscans. Unlike the Fonte del Casato which is made of stone, this one is made of bricks. Located along the road that takes its name from the Fonte, near the Church of San Giuseppe, it was also called degli Eremiti or Fonte di Sant’Agostino because it is at the base of the Convent hill. The location, in an inconspicuous and remote place, is very suggestive. Its main route runs in a ring for a length of about 300 meters entirely within the city walls and supplies the spring of the same name with water.
