Filice and Perrelli Canning Company Tools3D Model
This is one of the cannery tools at the Richmond Museum of History. These tools were used to remove the pits from fruits at the the Filice and Perrelli Cannery in Richmond, California. The cannery was established in 1930 at the dawn of the Great Depression. The cannery decided to hire 700 employees, mainly women. The starting wage was $0.20 an hour for men and $0.333 an hour for women. Fruit was trucked in from Gilroy. By the late 1950s the cannery was facing competition from frozen foods. The company was purchased in 1958 by the California Canners and Growers (Cal-Can) and that company began producing and distributing Bartlett pears, peaches, apricots, plums, and even produced their own sodas. By 1983 the cannery had closed, Cal-Can had gone bankrupt, and the Richmond Redevelopment Agency purchased the building to develop it.
