More model informationStatue of a resting Faunus in the park of Valtice Castle. The depiction of the flute-playing forest spirit by Vincenzo Michelli dates from the beginning of the 20th century.
A mythological scene on the front of the plinth: Pan chases the nymph Syrinx into the reeds. On the north side there is a scene from mythology in which Hermes (Mercury) plays the flute and Pan listens to his sweet playing. On the back of a prismatic pedestal, the lustful satyr fights the nymph Syrinx. The theme on the south side is the completion of Pan’s story as he sits on a rock by the river cutting reeds. Cupid, standing nearby, plays the flute.
