The European pond turtle is a species of long-living freshwater turtle in the family Emydidae, endemic to the Western Palearctic. It is a medium-sized turtle, the carapace length varies quite a bit across its geographic range, from 12 to 38 cm. It eats a mixed diet of plants and animal matter that can increase the efficiency of its digestive process.
