The Lavera refinery was commissioned in 1933 with an annual processing capacity of 350,000 tonnes of crude oil/year, the refinery and depot workforce then being 450 people. Built by the Société Générale des Huilles de Petroleum, this refinery belonged to the BP company until 2005, was transferred to Innovene, a subsidiary of BP, then was bought the same year by Ineos. In 2011, an agreement was signed between Ineos and the Chinese oil company Petrochina: this agreement led to the creation of the Petroineos subsidiary which today operates the Lavéra and Grangemouth refineries, in Scotland.
