The Eiffel Tower was mounted in 1889 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution and was to be demolished after the end of its 20-year lease. However, Gustave Eiffel cleverly put a 24m radio antenna and wireless telegraph transmitter in the Tower, and the government saw its value as a communications resource and permitted it to remain in place. Today, the Eiffel Tower is one the most famous landmarks in the world and is the tallest structure in Paris, standing at 324m.
I got this souvenir of the Eiffel Tower during my family’s visit to Paris, France in 2015. This overseas trip is the family’s first time travelling to Europe.
