In ancient Egypt it became widespread for important people to be buried with small sculptures of themselves. The owner of this statue is shown a walking pose with left leg forward and both hands clenched and held beside the waist, as if striding forward into eternity. He is wearing a short kilt and his head is shaven, a sign of cleanliness. It was acquired by the famous author Sir Henry Rider Haggard in Luxor, 1924.
