More model informationThis metacarpal is the only dire wolf (Canus dirus) fossil from Nevada. More about this discovery by University of Nevada Las Vegas geologist Josh Bonde can be found here: https://www.unlv.edu/news/release/unlv-researchers-find-first-evidence-ice-age-wolves-nevada. This Ice Age fossil was 3D scanned at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum on January 11, 2017 using a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner. This work was conducted by Dr. Bernard K. Means of the Virtual Curation Laboratory of Virginia Commonwealth University as part of a special project sponsored by the Smithsonian Affiliations office in Washington, D.C.
