More model informationThis is a density scan of the skull cap. Red represents thinner areas with less calcification while blue represents thicker regions with greater calcification. The “Inion” is the anatomical point on the tip of the external occipital protuberance. This point can be easily palpated on robust individuals and reflects an attachment point for the nuchal ligament along with its intersection with the trapezius muscles bilaterally.
Also notice that the groove for the middle meningeal arterty runs along a thinner area of parietal bone. As a result, it is at risk for blunt vascular trauma when a head injury occurs in the temporal and/or parietal region.
