David sat on a dirt block and looked down, a sad look growing deeper over his face. The intrusive thoughts quickly returned.
“No, David. You need to be stronger than this.” he said to himself, his mind battling against the stress. How could he continue? Even after he had reunited with his sister, Malrus had thrown everything off and now he didn’t know where she had gone. And when Emily looked at him, a despaired look covered her face. Yet she wouldn’t tell him why his presence brought her suffering. What had he done while they had traveled through time? Why wouldn’t she tell him? And why wouldn’t his master visit him again?
David felt more alone than he’d ever before. He had a duty to be the hero, and yet all he wanted was to just disappear.
“No, don’t cry David. Men and heroes don’t cry…” he whimpered as he struggled to push back down his feelings. “You are different from the rest of them… You… you have to be strong…”
