In Culross Abbey Parish Church lie the effigies of a lady, probably Isobel de Ergadia, daughter of John, Lord of Lorne, and wife of Sir John Stewart of Innermeath. John died in 1421, Isobel in 1439. The couple had seven children, including Sir James, the Black Knight of Lorne. Isobel is shown wearing a long mantle or cloak, held closed across her breast by a cord. Under this she wears a sideless cotehardie – in effect a decorative dress with huge armholes which extended down to the hips, so exposing the kirtle, a closer fitting dress, underneath. The front panel of the cotehardie is depicted decorated with embroidery. A heavy belt or girdle, enriched with plaques and worn low on the hips, can be seen under the cotehardie. Sadly, her head has been deliberately erased during one of the episodes of iconoclasm, and all that can be seen of her headdress is the long veil. Her feet rest upon a pair of dogs. 3D model generated with photogrammetry software 3DF Zephyr v6.010 processing 210 images
